Ismail El Shanawany's book "My American and German Years" is an autobiography and a novel worthy of being produced as a movie. It has many peaks and highlights. It is breathtaking.
Its incidents took
place mainly in Egypt, his birthplace, America and Germany; apart from occasional visits to different countries, mainly Europe.
It throws light on his aristocratic background and his attempts to mingle with different cultures. It highlights his dexterity as an architect capable of renovating an old historical mansion in Germany.
The highest peak of the book is his meeting with Richard Nixon, the former President of the United States, in New York.
