The results of the refractory metal fast reactor technology program were very encouraging. It was shown that fueled cermets clad with tungsten can be fabricated which will contain fuel for times and temperatures well in excess of 50 hours and 2500 degrees C. Tests in high-pressure, high-speed hydrogen demonstrated that the results of these tests seem to be valid for test pieces that simulate actual fuel-element geometries.
