ONE OF US BY Evelia Cobos, a New Mexico Award Winning Author, is her first work of fiction. ONE OF US is a novel of romance and suspense. Set in San Francisco, CA and Hawaii, Evelia Cobos speeds us aloft in an exciting journey. As in virtual reality, the story reveals the wedded lovers, Salim and Ana, who, like Romeo and Juliet, are fated lovers. Ana, an American educator, will never be accepted by Salim's traditional East Indian family. We learn in this fascinating mystery that Salim married Ana exactly for that reason. He did not wish for her acceptance. A THRILLER, WE ARE GLUED TO THE STORY AS WE WONDER IF THE QUEST Salim demands of Ana will result in the ECSTASY of consummated love; or whether, as in Romeo and Juliet, the lovers are doomed.

Review by Phaedra Greenwood *ENCHANTMENT MAGAZINE:" Ana, an American young woman, marries Salim, an East Indian who lives with his family. You might expect this novel to be about Ana's attempts to assimilate into Salim's culture. Instead, this is a stark tale about Ana's isolation and whirlspin into madness as the author describes page by riveting page a chilling disconnect paranoia, and a psychic break from reality. "Revolving door Ana" as they call her, spirals in and out of a mental hospital for twenty years. The book is an honest, and deeply unsettling story of patriarchal dominance, repression, and abuse. In a strange way, it ends well. Ana does not jump off the bridge; but lives to tell her intimate and painful tale. Cobos' previous book, THEY THAT LAUGH WIN was a finalist in the 2010 New Mexico Book Awards. ONE OF US is available as an ebook on
