Abstract: "Conventional Virtual Reality and 3D applications, including those based on VRML, allow continuous movement of the viewpoint but pay a heavy price in a poor performance, crude 3D models, low quality images, and the need for expensive hardware. PanoramIX takes the opposite position. The viewer is fixed to one spot with travel possible only in occasional giant steps, but look-around performance is much better, the image looks better, and no special hardware is desired."
