Establishing ways by which the quality of operation of individual cities, resorts and other individual locations within a country can be monitored and improved is a challenge for all national tourism administrations. WTO prepared this report with the aim to develop a classification system with sets of performance indicators to certify destinations of the Asia and the Pacific region. This study draws on the programme of research and enquiry made by the joint World Tourism Organization / China National Tourism Administration team for the China Best Tourism Cities study and makes particular reference to the China experience
