About the author (1990)

Dmitri Baltermants (1912-1900) was the preeminent photojournalist working in the Soviet Union from World War II through the Brezhnev era. His work, as a photographer and photoeditor for the popular news magazine Ogonyuk, helped shape the way that the Soviet people saw their world.
