This is the fifth volume of essays by actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre on their interpretations of major Shakespearian roles. The twelve essays discuss fourteen roles in twelve different productions between 1999 and 2002, including The Comedy of Errors, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Antony and Cleopatra. Robert Smallwood is Honorary Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute, Stratford-upon-Avon and was, until his retirement in 2001, Head of Education at the Shakespeare Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon.
