About the author (2010)

Julie O’Connell, D. Litt., teaches English at Seton Hall University. A doctoral candidate at Drew University, she is currently writing her dissertation entitled “Narrative Self-Representations by Writers with Asperger’s Syndrome.” Ms. O’Connell holds a master’s degree from Brown University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown University. For ten years, she served as the Director of the Felician College Writing Lab where she initiated and oversaw an interdisciplinary college writing center which used a Writing Across the Curriculum philosophy. Ms. O’Connell also developed and taught a ten-week Praxis II Elementary Education preparation course for teacher education students.

Ms. O’Connell, has taught college courses in developmental writing, rhetoric and composition, literature, reading, ESL, and Business Communications. She has worked as a Learning Specialist at a large public university, and taught high school English. She’s given numerous presentations on learning styles, study strategies, time management, test preparation, test taking, note taking, and reading skills for undergraduate students. She has a special interest in working with students who have learning disabilities and who face other kinds of academic challenges. She has been honored in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
