The field of psychonarratology represents an interdisciplinary collaboration between, on one hand, cognitive psychology and discourse processing, and, on the other, narratology and literary studies. The present work provides a broad, integrative framework for pursuing research in this field that is approachable by researchers from both disciplinary backgrounds. Bortolussi and Dixon survey the important problems in literary studies and demonstrate by analysis and example how the methodological and empirical tools of cognitive psychology can be applied in this new approach.
