Zolani Mkiva is one of the youngest practitioners of one of the oldest oral traditions in South Africa: the imbongi or praise poet. He has selected the poems for this collection, most of which were published in The Railway Magazine during the late 19th and early 20th century.

Some interesting poetry. Railways in South Africa tended to be an Afrikaaner stronghold, so it is particularly encouraging to find members of the majority population putting together a work such as this. Read full review
