Carl, a youngish but overweight Dublin taxi driver, owes Jackie three grand in gambling debts. Jackie wants the money, and he wants it now, not least because an armed robbery he has masterminded has just gone badly wrong. From there it is all downhill for Carl and his father-in-law George. And not in a good way.
Rank is a darkly comic thrilled trip through the grim, seething and sometimes hilarious criminal world of Dublin's suburbs, where loyalty, trust and friendship are just more chips to be thrown on the table.
Robert Massey's new play was premiered by Fishamble: The New Play Company as part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival 2008, before transferring to the Tricycle Theatre, London.
