When six adults and nine teenagers arrive in the Italian Alps to try their kayaking skills against the wild waters of the Aurino River, they have no idea what dangers await them. Their hosts are Clive, an enigmatic but commanding leader, and his alluring but fragile girlfriend, Michela. Vince, a recently widowed banker, is trying to make sense of his life at the same time he feels his teenage daughter, Louise, pulling away from him. Over the next week, all their lives intertwine in ways none could have foreseen, as the river provokes sudden conflict and shifting alliances. An ideal love affair dissolves, while a seemingly impossible one begins, and a trivial disagreement turns violent. Meanwhile, the threat of death accompanies them downstream as they test their courage and abilities against roaring waters, rocks both seen and sunken, treacherous logs, and the flotsam that becomes a liquid trap.
