About the author (2025)

Marc Gafni is the dean of the Melitz Beit Midrash, one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions in Israel today. He lives in Jerusalem, Israel. "High-achieving dyslexic"--writer and transformative educator, working to bring a greater sense of justice and sanity to education. Zak studied philosophy and religion at Hampshire College before pursuing graduate degrees in educational neuroscience, human development, and the philosophy of education at Harvard University. While a student at Harvard Zak co-founded what would become Lectica, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to the research-based, justice-oriented reform of large-scale standardized testing infrastructures in K-12, higher-education, and business. He has published on a range of topics including the philosophy of learning, educational technology, and integral theory. His work has appeared in a number of academic journals including, American Psychologist, New Ideas in Psychology, Mind, Brain, and Education, Integral Review, the Journal of Philosophy of Education, and The Journal of Integral Theory and Practice.
