This series examines one of the most pressing problems of our times: how to finance the pension and health care needs of rapidly ageing populations. With people living longer and staying healthy longer, keeping older people on the job longer may be part of the answer. To do so, additional measures will clearly be needed on wage scales, job discrimination, skills acquisition, and working conditions. Attitudes will also have to change about working later in life. Little is known, however, about what countries have been or should be doing on those issues. Each report in this series contains a survey of the main employment barriers confronting older people, an assessment of existing remedial measures, and policy recommendations for further opportunities.
