The author wanted her main charactor to be a strong independent woman.  She has a job and supports herself.  She enjoys living at home with her father, mother and younger sister.  She is happy with her life just as it is.  If she were to get married everything would change for Sadie Mae.  One day out of the blue she finds out she is engaged to a man she has known for several years.

She was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. In her senior year of high school she moved with her family to the state of Michigan. She attended Michigan State University. Where she studied history.She has experienced many people and their cultures in her travels. She now lives in the deep South.
