My grandmother and grandfather (Willis & Gutherie) lived in "The Promised Land" on 12th Street in Morehead. When I would visit there in the 1940's and 1950's I head the Shakleford Migration story told many times. I am glad to now have it so objectively documented as the description here.
It has cleared up some misconceptions for me, and tied the migration to the date of my grandparents wedding so that I now have a documented story to add to their family history.
I haven't bought this book;yet. But I will soon because this book makes me very proud to see part of my Great Grandfather's life within its pages.
