About the author

Susan Tweit is the author of Seasons in the Desert (0-8118-1685-0) and other books. She divides her time between Salida, Colorado, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she hosts Wild Lives on her local NPR station.James Bain Smith and Julia de Bierre run Castle Workshops, a series of courses on restoration, fine furniture, period painting techniques, and decorative effects, based at the Chateau de Lucens in Switzerland.
