About the author (2010)

 Rick Hetzel grew up in Jefferson City, Missouri, located in central Missouri and well known for being the gateway to the Lake of the Ozarks.  After high school, Rick embarked upon a twenty year career with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division, which took him around the world, including one tour in South Vietnam.

After his military career, Rick continued to serve in civilian law enforcement as Chief of Police in Norcross, Georgia, and concluded his criminal justice career as Chief of Police in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he now resides with his wife Cheryl Ann Mothes, his border collie “Freedom” and their herd of independent minded cats.

Following his second retirement, Rick put to good use the skills his father had taught him as a young man growing up and founded R. Hetzel Properties, LLC, a multi-faceted construction, property management and remodeling consulting firm (

Throughout his military and law enforcement careers, Rick has authored several publications related to his law enforcement and criminal investigations interests, including:
