Sporting Life is a collection of pages from Walter Ioosss journal. Part travelogue and part memoir, this artistic diary weaves over 150 photos and illustrations, newspaper clippings, and handwritten thoughts into visually arresting collages to chronicle his life and behind-the-scenes work. The photographers words frame photographs of his most famous subjects, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Muhammad Ali, Anna Kournikova, Heidi Klum, Arnold Palmer, and Mark McGwire, many of which are printed here for the first time. In his 40-year career, Iooss has covered major sporting events and taken countless portraits of top personalities. For the past 20 years hes photographed top models for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, an assignment he calls probably the best single assignment for an American photographer.

About the author (2001)

Walter Iooss Jr. has more than 300 "Sports Illustrated covers to his credit, and recently celebrated his 40th year as the magazine's senior photographer. He is the photographer of the best-seller "Rare Air and Abrams' "Classic Baseball, among many other books. Iooss lives in Montauk, New York. Rick Reilly, a senior writer for "Sports Illustrated, has been voted National Sportswriter of the Year eight times. His latest national bestseller, "Who's Your Caddy?, recounting his misadventures caddying for tour pros like Jack Nicklaus and David Duval, was released in May 2003. He lives in Denver, Colorado.
