The book was bought during my studies at Newcastle University UK in the field of Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding Engineering. Actually I obtained the 3rd edition in SI unit version published in 1975. The book is suitable for undergraduate level in engineering and covers topics such as direct stress, shear stress, compound stress & strain, elastic constants, shearing force & bending moment, bending stress, shear stress in beams, torsion, deflection of beams, built-in & continuous beams, bending of curved bars & rigid frames, plastic theory of bending, springs, struts, cylinders & spheres, rotating discs & cylinders, circular plates, vibrations & critical speeds and material testing & experimental methods, The book is well illustrated and have plenty of worked examples. Problems related to the subjects also are included to enhance the readers' understanding of the topics concerned. Generally a good entry level book for strength of materials & highly recommended for students & practicing engineers. God knows best.
