Strip patch-work

Front Cover
Dover Publications, 1988 - Crafts & Hobbies - 143 pages
Patchwork with fabric strips is an extremely versatile craft which can be used to create wall hangings, quilts, cushions or clothes. Abstract designs, geometric patterns and picture images can easily be built up with a variety of colored strips of different lengths and widths.

Valerie Campbell-Harding explores every aspect of this effective and attractive patchwork technique, and includes numerous design ideas as well as technical information. A chapter on Sewing Methods gives detailed instructions for piecing strips by 15 different techniques, including log cabin, machine piecing, strips sewn to a backing, textured strips and block patchwork using pre-stripped fabric. The subtle shades which give patchwork its appeal can often only be obtained by dyeing one's own fabric, so the author has included a useful section on dyeing by traditional and experimental methods. The remaining chapters are devoted to ways of designing and building up patterns, and will be of immense value to patchworkers who wish to develop their own creative styles.

Valerie Campbell-Harding's excellent drawings and photographs, of which there are over 250, explain the sewing techniques and offer a wealth of suggestions for attractive designs in strip patchwork.
