S2Although subsistence activities in rural Alaskan communities are ofte reexamined in isolation, they are one component of mixed economic systems. Public and private sectors also play primary roles in socioeconomic well-being, and there is considerable interaction among the sectors. In this paper, the mixed economic base of a modernizing rural community is examined with emphasis on the interrelationships between personal use of natural resources and other sectors of the economy.S3.
