“Tears of the Heart” is a collection of poetry that moves you through life – from the passions and romance of love, to family, children and even loss or unrequited love. It is a roller coaster of emotion that will tug at your heart. Author Shirleyann Regis effortlessly puts into words one the hardest emotions to describe – unconditional and enduring love.
At times, I felt as though I were eavesdropping- listening to the most intimate and tender whispers between lovers. The words caress, tug, make you smile, and make you cry. To love without question – loving with the heart. To love even though not reciprocated. My heart ached for those who loved from a distance, and rejoiced with those who found it.
Every poem is a short story reminding us of our past, and showing us hope for the future. Teaching us lessons in life – to give it your all, and know when to say “I’m sorry”. The collection includes the deep connection of friends and family, and making the most of each day. I felt very connected to ”Read Me a Story” and, especially, “Daddy’s Girl.” How a father sees his child as an angel; how proud he is of her and how she will always be daddy’s little girl.
Aside from the few typographical errors, the book is worthy to sit on your bookshelf. The poetry is of love, in its various forms. I recommend this for ages high school to adult as some of the poems could be construed more suggestive.
Seldom have I read prose that evoked such a deep connective passion so effortlessly. Individual poems flow together like a sonnet; gliding you to heights only the deepest and truest love could achieve or understand; and into the deepest canyon of a love lost. “Tears of the Heart” is a wonderful collection worthy for every adult, young or old – teaching and reminding us of the power of love.
