James B Johnson, M.D., an instructor in plastic surgery in the U.S., retired after more than twenty years in private practice to pursue his long-time interest in alternate-day calorie restriction. After witnessing many of his patients struggle with their weight, he became committed to finding a way for them to achieve a healthy body weight and improve their health without the stress and difficulty of complying with traditional diets. He has since become one of the foremost innovators in this field, having published various scientific articles and also conducting the first study to show how alternate-day calorie restriction can treat disease.
