This annual series, initiated in 1966, is a project of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP), the longest-running and largest longitudinal study of the American higher education system. It provides national normative data on the characteristics of students attending American colleges and universities as first-time, full-time freshmen (demographic characteristics; expectations of college; degree goals and career plans; college finances; attitudes, values and life goals).

About the author (2010)

The report is compiled, analyzed and written by current HERI/CIRP directors and research staff. HERI serves as an interdisciplinary center for research, evaluation, information, policy studies, and research training in postsecondary education. The Institute's research program covers a variety of topics including the outcomes of postsecondary education, leadership development, institutional transformation, faculty performance, federal and state policy and educational equity.
