About the author (2001)

Joy Howard was a full-time teacher of travel and tourism at the Sydney Institute of TAFE for over twelve years. She is currently working as a Tourism Project Officer for TAFE NSW and is an adjunct staff member of the School of Leisure, Sport and Tourism Studies at the University of Technology, Sydney. Jo was awarded an International Tourism Training Award in 1999. In addition, Joy has worked on a range of tourism industry training and education projects for organisations such as Tourism Training Australia, Tourism New South Wales, Calkin and Simpson Tourism Group and the Inbound Tourism Organisation of Australia.

Rob Harris has been involved in travel and tourism in Australia for seventeen years. Formerly the Head Teacher of Travel and Tourism at the Sydney Institute of TAFE, he is now a Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is also the Director of Continuting Education Programs for the School of Leisure, Sport and Tourism Studies. Rob is a past President of the Australian Institute of Travel and Tourism, and has worked as an adjunct staff member in rhe Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, Clemson University, South Carolina (USA).In addition to his involvement in teaching, Rob has worked as a consultant researcher on a number of training, education and marketing projects for organisations such as TAFE, Tourism New South Wales, and the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Science and Resources. His other publications include The Dictionary of Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Terms (Hospitality Press, 1996), and Sustainable Tourism: An Australian Perspective (Butterworth-Heinemann, 1995).
