The Boys and the Business
In 1944 Stanley Schaffer opened Schaffer Jewelers, a small intimate jewelry store on the famed Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. The birth of that business was the start of a family business that became one of the most successful and unique retail jewelry chains in Southern California. The name was changed to Schaffer and Sons when Richard, the oldest son entered the business, followed by his brothers, David and Michael. This is the story of the development of that business, it's promise, pitfalls and success, as the boys integrated into the business and the price that had to be paid by each of them and by their father, Stanley. Told against the backdrop of the historical times and events of the years between 1945 and 1990, it shows the evolution of retail business and how it affected the direction of Schaffer Jewelers. "The Boys and the Business" is the true story of a visionary man of charm and wit and his desire to create a new concept that would be a legacy for his wife, Doris and their three sons and of the rise and fall of their beloved family business.
