About the author (2011)

A well-known writer of the Edwardian Period, Arthur Applin (1873-1949) enjoyed considerable success writing mysteries and adventure tales, often with a romance as a major sub-plot. Most of his works have become relatively obscure and hard to find, and he is probably best-known today for his ill-fated short biography of British Admiral John Jellicoe, "Admiral Jellicoe" (1915), alternately titled "Life of Admiral Jellicoe." Ironically, the book was written just before the outbreak of WW I, as Jellicoe was beginning his tenure as Supreme Admiral of the Home Fleets, and published prior to the Battle of Jutland, the only major fleet action of Jellicoe's long career.
