About the author (1991)

Barnes is national secretary of the Socialist Workers Party. An organizer of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, actions in defense of Black rights, and the anti-Vietnam War movement, he was a leader of the Young Socialist Alliance (YSA) in the early 1960s, serving as its national chairperson in 1965. He has been a member of the Socialist Workers Party National Committee since 1963, a national officer of the party since 1969, and carries central leadership responsibilities in the world communist movement.
