Ridiculed by experts in its era for being internally contradictory, incoherent, and inaccurate, it was tremendously popular among racists. Although dismissed (accurately) by experts as "re-hashed Gobineau," racists cited it in defense of restricting immigration of eastern Europeans, forced sterilization, segregation, and anti-miscegenation laws. It remains popular among white supremacists, including, ironically enough, people who are not "Nordic."

Page 367 - And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to.
Page 91 - The man of the old stock is being crowded out of many country districts by these foreigners, just as he is today being literally driven off the streets of New York City by the swarms of Polish Jews. These immigrants adopt the language of the native American; they wear his clothes; they steal his name; and they are beginning to take his women, but they seldom adopt his religion or understand his ideals...
Page 367 - And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
Page 367 - And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

Page 17 - What the Melting Pot actually does in practice, can be seen in Mexico, where the absorption of the blood of the original Spanish conquerors by the native Indian population has produced the racial mixture which we call Mexican, and which is now engaged in demonstrating its incapacity for self-government.
Page vii - European history has been written in terms of nationality and of language, but never before in terms of race; yet race has played a far larger part than either language or nationality in moulding the destinies of men; race implies heredity, and heredity implies all the moral, social, and intellectual characteristics and traits which are the springs of politics and government.
Page 367 - And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children ? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and behold, he keepeth the sheep.
Page ix - If I were asked: What is the greatest danger which threatens the American republic today? I would certainly reply: The gradual dying out among our people of those hereditary traits through which the principles of our religious, political and social foundations were laid down and their insidious replacement by traits of less noble character.
