Matlins has written a comprehensive work on pearls for the connoisseur and amateur alike. One would like to see an updated version of this standard work since the pearl market and pearl growing and processing technologies have expanded in the second decade of the 21st century. For the median-income pearl buyer and aficionado, this is probably the best "generalist" work on pearls available today.
