The author's credibility? All you have to do is go to cms dot openpayments dot gov to see that he has been paid thousands by Noven big pharma - most recently related to Brisdelle - which is Paxil (paroxetine) an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication that the FDA initially refused to approve, then caved in after pressure from random people like the CEO of HysterSisters. Any doctor on the payroll of big pharma is biased, but I bought the book to see what he would say about things. His comments about the WHI study are those repeated over and over by OBGYNs at the behest of pharma. What's ironic is that the whole reason the WHI was even done at all was because Wyeth, now part of Pfizer, wanted the NIH to look at whether they could claim that their equine estrogen (their menopause medication is made from horse pee so they can patent the formula - just look it up) was cardio and memory beneficial in older women so they could sell to an even bigger market. THAT is the reason for the older age group in the study, not some flaw in the NIH's analysis. Pharma has been so disingenuous about this and have been backtracking ever since. Anything like bioidenticals that doesn't represent more revenue for big pharma is also criticized in this book. The question of whether estrogen has the same effect on younger women? The answer isn't 'no'. It's 'we don't know' because no one else wanted to sponsor a study like that after Wyeth's sales plummeted based on the results. Chances are more likely to be yes than no, though. Our bodies don't change that much.
