Buyer beware! Although the theorists surveyed in this book are important for any student of cultural studies, prospective buyers need to know that this is NOT an introduction to formative concepts or theories of performance studies in particular. In fact, amazingly, 90% of the book is lifted wholesale from William Deal and Timothy Beal's _Theory for Religious Studies_ (2004), a book published by Routledge's parent company (Taylor & Francis). About the author (2008)

Philip Auslander teaches performance studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Georgia. His research interests include performance theory, performance and technology, and popular music. He is the author of six books, including Liveness: Performance in a Mediatized Culture and Performing Glam Rock: Gender and Theatricality in Popular Music.
