U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 1998 - Health & Fitness - 96 pages
This guide provides an overview of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) standards and training guidelines for various industries. The first section introduces the concept of voluntary training guidelines, explaining that the guidelines are designed to help employers determine whether a worksite problem can be solved by training, what training should be given, how to design and implement the training, and how to evaluate and refine the training. Next is an index of training requirements and sections that cover training requirements for the following areas: (1) general industry, including (among others) means of egress, platforms and manlifts, personal protective equipment, and materials handling and storage; (2) maritime, including shipyard employment, maritime terminals, and long shoring; (3) construction, including (among others) general safety and health provisions, fire protection and prevention, hand and power tools, electrical, scaffolding, excavations, and demolition; (4) agricultural, including applicability of standards, roll-over protective structures, safety for agricultural equipment, and occupational health; and (5) federal employee programs, including (among others) financial management, inspection and abatement, general services administration, occupational safety and health committees, training for such positions as inspectors and representatives, and federal safety and health councils. Supplementary sections provide a list of 10 readings in industrial safety and health training and other resources; a list of states with approved plans; an OSHA consultation project directory; and lists of OSHA area and regional offices. The addendum contains training requirements concerning the use of powered industrial trucks. (KC)
