Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Sprachwissenschaft / Sprachforschung (fachubergreifend), Note: 1,0, Europa-Universitat Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (Kulturwissenschaftliche Fakultat), Veranstaltung: Erzahlung, Wirklichkeit und Tabuverletzung im Film, 17 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In each communty exist social limitations which are called taboos." This word was imported by british discoverers from polynesia in the 18th century. Taboos are restrictons and prohibitions regarding words, things, actions or people that are considered morally, socially or religiously undesirable or offensive by a group, culture, or society. Breaking a taboo is usually considered with rejection or exclusion and some of them are prohibited by law and rules whose violation may lead to severe penalties. Generally, taboos result in embarrassment and shame. A concrete translation of that term is quite difficult as Freud concludes: "The meaning of taboo diverges in two contrary directions. To us it means on the one hand, "sacred," "consecrated," and on the other "sinister," "forbidden," "dangerous" and "unclean." The converse of "taboo" in the polynesian language is noa, which means "common" or "generally accessible."" (vgl. Ubersetzung von Eggert/ Golec 2002: 17). In the movie KIDS" by Larry Clark I would like to demonstrate and interpret the used breakings of taboos and how the illustration affects and influences the viewer. Therefore, the movie will be examined by its sequences and the displayed models and motives. Furthermore, the meaning is going to be analyzed regarding the used stylistic devices of generating suspense, the plot and the history of the drama and the effect and reaction of the audience. "KIDS" can be seen as a useful example that infringing prohibitions is sometimes necessary to develop self- integrity and idividualism and to achieve the viewer's attention to point the society's grievances out.
