About the author (2006)

Formerly provost and history professor at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, Renaissance historian JOHN GUY is now a fellow in history at Clare College, University of Cambridge. He has written several books (including a best-selling textbook, Tudor England), consults for the BBC, and is at work on a new documentary about Mary Queen of Scots.

Richard Hall, a native of East Orange, New Jersey, teaches writing at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has been a visiting writer at Hampshire College and Trinity College, a reporter for "Life" magazine, and a writing fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
