About the author (2006)

Gary Nelson was born in New York City, attended Brown University and received his MFA from New School University in NY ('01). "Waking up at Broomie's" is his first novel. Author Dennis Cooper said this about the title story:

"Waking up at Broomie's is an utterly convincing piece of work. There's not a wasted word, untrue feeling, or unthoughtfully turned phrase. His writing is low-key but electrified, ...always modest and emotionally refined. Nelson has terrific instincts as well as absolutely natural and unmistakable gifts. His work is a real pleasure and looms with promise.”

Nelson lives in Brooklyn with his wife, daughter and three cats.
