This novel is a triptych set in contemporary Europe, specifically Dublin and Dresden. Through the eyes of a pupil of Raphael, we watch the creation of his sublime Sistine Madonna, which later housed in a gallery in Dresden, becomes the focus of the hopes of the Jewish Jacob Philip and his mother.
