About the author (1984)

Nobel Prize-winning playwright Dario Fo was born in San Giano, Lombardy, Italy on March 24, 1926 and educated at Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan. In June of 1954, he married playwright and actress, Franca Rame; they have three children. Fo has written more than 40 plays, many of which have been translated and performed in more than 30 countries worldwide. He first earned acclaim as a playwright in 1953 with Il dito nell'occhio (A Finger in the Eye). He also won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997. Some of his more recent titles in English translation are The Open Couple and an Ordinary Day (1990), The Pope and the Witch (1993), and (with Rame) Plays, Two (1994).
