About the author (1973)

A playwright, musician, and theater director, Zulu Sofola was born at Ogwashi-Uku in the Delta State of Nigeria. A graduate of Virginia Union University, she earned an M.A. in drama from the Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in theater arts from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where she taught for several years before accepting a position at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Sofola's plays are mainly on the order of popular drama, and are largely concerned with conventional social and domestic issues. They include Wedlock of the Gods (1970), Wizard of Law, The Sweet Trap (1977) Old Wines are Tasty, Fantasies in Moonlight, Song of a Maiden, and The Operators. In addition, she has produced at least one historical tragedy, King Emene (1974). Sofola manages to flavor her work with local idioms and folkways.
