This book is a steaming pile if you catch my drift. It is a far right-wing screed that bashes the NEA for all it is worth, insinuating that the NEA is basically a communist organization, bent on destroying Western Civilization.. The author of the book, Dan Alexander, was a member of the Mobile County School Board in Mobile, Alabama at the time the school board was sued for imposing school prayer in the Mobile County schools. The case, which became Jaffree V. (George) Wallace when it was appealed to the Supreme Court, was decided against Alexander, et al, by a 6-3 vote of the Supreme Court. If you can imagine the arguments a fundamentalist, far-right wing zealot might make against a teacher's union, you can imagine what this book is like. Misleading in the extreme, check. Propaganda informed largely by right-wing ideologues who are not educators, check. Union bashing, check. The last chapter of the book, "Conclusion: What Can Be Done", begins with this sentence:
"The only possible way to rid the nation of these cultural succubi [the NEA] is to engage in protracted incivility..."
Avoid this steaming pile like the plague..A book definitely worth burning. No stars....
