William Edward Shannon, 1823-1850, Soldier, Lawyer, Statesman![]() Shannon was a soldier in the New York Regiment of the Mexican War and left the Army in 1848 in San Diego. He was a miner and businessman, lawyer and judge, and member of the California Constitutional Convention. Shannon died of cholera during the epidemic in Sacramento in 1850. |
