Women Embodying Executive Leadership (WEEL) is a cohort-model discernment program for women discerning a possible call to the episcopate in The Episcopal Church. After over forty years of women in the priesthood and almost thirty years of women bishops in The Episcopal Church, women still make up less than ten percent of bishops in The Episcopal Church. Eleven women participated in the inaugural WEEL program, gathering for three days at a time on four occasions over a year and a half. All participants reported the WEEL experience clarified their discernment of a possible call to the episcopate as well as their understanding of the part they can play in helping more excellent women get elected as bishop.
