Still incredibly helpful in 2014! I had a week before I started my job as a departmental director, so I ran to the library to brush up on management techniques. This was the best find that day! It's a very easy read. I skimmed through the book in a couple of hours, making notes as I went. As the author states, it's based on CEO's plans and stories, but it applies to all areas of management very well. This book helped reassure me that I was on the right track with my future position and also provided me with MANY other ideas of how to get my department off on the right foot. It's all practical tips. If I said anything negative about it, I'd say that the CEO stories are a bit too frequent in the book. When I say I skimmed the book, it was the CEO stories regarding specific companies that I began to skip completely. Everything else is GREAT information. Each chapter also has a "conclusion" numbered list of what you learned in that chapter, so if you're in a time crunch you could just go through and read those and get a pretty good picture of what the book teaches.
