About the author (1985)

Callcott joined the Department of History at the University of Maryland at College Park in 1956 and retired as Professor Emeritus in 1995. From 1970 to 1976 he served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. He was named the Outstanding Faculty Member of 1966, Distinguished Scholar-Teacher in 1991, and received the President's Medal in 1994. He has written books on American historiograpy, Maryland history, and university history.
