It is impossible to write the life of Brigham Young without also writing the history of Mormonism, and it is impossible to write the history of Mormonism without writing the life of Joseph Smith, Jr., its author and proprietor. This book attempts to carry out the three tasks together, but Werner does not claim to have written a complete history of Mormonism up to the present day. It was Werner's aim to write that history as it was affected by the personality of Brigham Young, and as it affected his personality. Illustrated.
