In my reading and research as a student of history, I have not yet found a work to be equally entitled the "seminal work of 18th century warfare" as this.
The author is a veteran soldier and
campaigner as well as an educated man. He writes with a prose that is far from dry and allows the reader to follow the story with ease. The places and people come alive in a style that almost matches that of Kostantine Pleshakov in the "Tsar's Last Armada."
I am very picky about the historical works I will endorse, but this one is certainly on the list of those I will without qualm or second thought.
