This is a book whose title struck me as a bit retro. After all I am reading it in 2012! But in the end, the feelings she describe have no particular era and the book is accurate. I wished she had deepened her observations on the fact that there is a shortage of both men and employment and what this means for the female condition. She also reminded me that I love Schopenhauer.
She speaks in a voice that , despite her Ph.D. is influenced by a very mainstream popular culture that automatically excludes or marginalises women who are not white. In some ways, I feel all her lessons of undependance can be learned by being a woman who is not white.
In the end, this is a good little book to read if you are a white woman feeling dependant though some of the things that Russianoff mentions have relevance to all women.
