About the author (1987)

Isabel Huggan was born on September 21, 1943, in Ontario, Canada. She attended the University of Western Ontario and briefly worked for Macmillan Publishing after graduation. She later taught high school English and worked as a reporter and photographer. Huggan garnered praise for The Elizabeth Stories, a collection of short stories set in the 1950s. These stories center on Elizabeth, a young girl dealing with life as an outsider in the town of Garten. Huggan explores the intricacies of the female experience, including the unique mother-daughter relationship. Repression, social class, and sexual identity are other themes often explored by Huggan. Her other works include the collection of short stories You Never Know.
