Cronin offers a nice summary of the tools of direct democracy. I wonder whether he would still say that minority rights are not in danger, after the spate of anti-gay marriage initiatives in 2004? Read full review

About the author (1989)

Thomas E. Cronin is the McHugh Professor of American Institutions and Leadership at Colorado College. He is president emeritus of Whitman College (1993-2005) and a former acting president of Colorado College (1991). He earned a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University, is author, coauthor, or editor of ten books on politics and government, and has been a moderator since 1973 of more than a dozen Aspen Institute Executive Seminars.
